Dires for Development (Dires) is an Ethiopian charity specialized in social programs for people with a disability. It is their mission to combat poverty and inequality for people with a disability in Ethiopia. In different organization forms, Dires exists for over 17 years. Since 2012, Dires is an official Charitable Association under Ethiopian Law.
Almost all employees of Dires, including the management, and all board members, have a disability themselves. We find it important that we not only work for this target group, but also with them.
We develop programs and services that contribute mainly to spreading positive awareness about having a disability, and opportunities for work and income. As much as we can we try to develop programs that generate income and become as less dependent on external donors as much as possible.
